Job Title: Marine Operations Superintendent
Location: Nigeria
Job Summary
The Marine Operations Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, management, and execution of marine operations supporting offshore oil and gas activities, including offshore construction, drilling operations, FPSO support, marine logistics, vessel management, transportation and installation (T&I), mooring operations, and offshore field development projects.
The role provides strategic leadership to ensure all marine activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable maritime regulations, company standards, and project requirements.
Lead and manage all marine operations associated with offshore construction, drilling, production, subsea installation, and logistics activities.
Develop and implement marine operational strategies, procedures, and execution plans.
Coordinate marine resources, vessel schedules, personnel logistics, and offshore support activities.
Ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of marine operations.
Provide leadership and direction to marine superintendents, vessel coordinators, marine advisors, and offshore personnel.
Marine Planning and Coordination:
Plan and coordinate marine activities including vessel mobilization and demobilization, offshore logistics and supply chain support, anchor handling operations, towing and transportation activities, offshore installation campaigns, mooring operations, loadout and sea-fastening activities, diving and ROV support operations, and FPSO and offshore facility support services.
Monitor vessel utilization and operational performance to ensure project objectives are achieved.
Coordinate interfaces between marine, construction, drilling, subsea, and production teams.
Vessel and Marine Assurance Management:
Oversee vessel selection, suitability assessments, inspections, and marine assurance activities.
Ensure compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements, flag state regulations, and classification society standards.
Interface with vessel owners, marine warranty surveyors, classification societies, and regulatory authorities.
Support vessel audits, inspections, and operational readiness reviews.
Monitor contractor compliance with marine operational and safety requirements.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities:
Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all marine operations.
Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, marine safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
Lead marine risk assessments, HAZID, HAZOP, SIMOPS, and operational safety reviews.
Ensure implementation of permit-to-work systems and safe marine operating procedures.
Participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Monitor environmental compliance throughout marine operations.
Project and Commercial Management:
Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation activities.
Monitor project costs, vessel utilization, operational efficiency, and performance metrics.
Participate in contract administration, change management, and claims evaluation processes.
Prepare management reports, operational updates, and project performance reviews.
Identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost optimization.
Stakeholder Management:
Serve as the primary marine operations interface with clients, contractors, vessel operators, regulatory agencies, and project teams.
Participate in project reviews, technical meetings, and management presentations.
Provide timely reporting on operational performance, risks, and mitigation measures.
Manage marine operational interfaces across multiple projects and stakeholders.
Knowledge Transfer and Team Development:
Mentor and develop local marine personnel, marine coordinators, and offshore operations staff.
Lead structured knowledge transfer and competency development initiatives.
Support succession planning and local content development objectives.
Promote continuous improvement and operational excellence programs.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Offshore Engineering, or a related discipline.
Master's Degree in Marine Operations, Engineering, Project Management, or Business Administration is advantageous.
Professional membership with a recognized marine or engineering institution is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 15 years' experience in marine operations, offshore logistics, offshore construction support, vessel management, or marine project execution within the oil and gas industry.
Minimum of 15 years' experience in senior marine management, marine superintendent, marine assurance, offshore logistics, or marine operations leadership roles.
