Job Title: Project Quality Control Manager
Location: Nigeria
Job Summary
The Senior Project Lead QC is responsible for leading and managing all Quality Control activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, installation, commissioning, and handover activities are executed in accordance with project specifications, international standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory obligations.
The role provides technical leadership, quality assurance oversight, and strategic direction to ensure project deliverables meet the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control Leadership:
Lead and coordinate all project QC activities from project initiation through completion and handover.
Develop and implement Project Quality Control Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Surveillance Programs, and inspection strategies.
Ensure compliance with project specifications, client requirements, applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical leadership to QC inspectors, coordinators, supervisors, and subcontractor quality personnel.
Establish quality objectives, performance indicators, and quality improvement initiatives.
Inspection and Verification Activities:
Oversee inspection activities related to fabrication, welding, NDT, coating, mechanical completion, construction, installation, and commissioning.
Verify compliance with approved procedures, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
Review and approve inspection reports, quality records, test certificates, and inspection dossiers.
Monitor contractor and vendor inspection activities to ensure quality compliance.
Ensure traceability of materials, equipment, and inspection records throughout project execution.
Vendor and Contractor Quality Management:
Lead vendor surveillance and supplier quality management activities.
Conduct quality audits, assessments, and inspections at fabrication facilities and vendor locations.
Review contractor quality plans, procedures, and quality performance metrics.
Ensure non-conformances are effectively managed and corrective actions implemented.
Support supplier qualification and performance evaluation processes.
Project Execution Support:
Participate in engineering reviews, constructability reviews, risk assessments, and project planning activities.
Support fabrication, loadout, transportation, installation, hook-up, commissioning, and start-up activities.
Coordinate quality support for offshore construction, SURF, subsea, marine, and facility projects.
Monitor project progress and quality performance against established objectives.
Interface with project management teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities:
Ensure all QC activities are performed in accordance with company HSE policies and procedures.
Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Identification (HAZID), and risk assessment activities.
Promote safe work practices and quality culture across project teams.
Support incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with applicable HSE and regulatory requirements.
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare quality reports, inspection summaries, KPI dashboards, and management presentations.
Review and approve quality dossiers, turnover packages, and project close-out documentation.
Maintain project quality records and document control systems.
Provide regular updates on quality performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Knowledge Transfer and Team Development:
Mentor and develop QC engineers, inspectors, and local quality personnel.
Lead quality awareness and competency development initiatives.
Facilitate lessons-learned sessions and continuous improvement programs.
Support knowledge transfer and succession planning activities in line with local content requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Master's Degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or Project Management is advantageous.
Professional engineering registration or membership of a recognized professional institution is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years' experience in QA/QC, inspection, fabrication, construction, commissioning, or project quality management within the oil and gas industry.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in senior QC leadership, project quality management, or quality assurance roles.
Extensive experience supporting EPC, EPCM, and EPCI projects from engineering through commissioning.
Proven experience in offshore, onshore, subsea, SURF, marine, and fabrication projects.
International project experience is highly preferred.
Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary quality teams on major capital projects.
