Job Title: Mooring Superintendent
Location: Nigeria
Job Summary
The Mooring Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision, and execution of mooring system installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and integrity management activities for offshore facilities and marine assets.
The role provides technical leadership for mooring operations associated with FPSOs, FSOs, offshore platforms, floating production systems, offshore construction vessels, and marine infrastructure, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all mooring-related activities.
Monitor offshore activities to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with project schedules.
Mooring Engineering and Technical Oversight:
Review and approve mooring installation procedures, method statements, risk assessments, and execution plans.
Provide technical oversight for mooring chains and wires, synthetic mooring ropes, anchors and anchor piles, suction piles, connectors and shackles, turret mooring systems, and CALM and SPM buoy systems.
Evaluate mooring system integrity, performance, and operational readiness.
Support engineering reviews, installation analyses, and operational risk assessments.
Coordinate with subsea, marine, structural, and installation engineering teams.
Inspection, Maintenance, and Integrity Management:
Develop and implement mooring inspection, maintenance, and integrity management programs.
Review inspection reports, integrity assessments, and maintenance recommendations.
Coordinate repair, replacement, and life-extension activities for mooring systems.
Ensure compliance with integrity management standards and regulatory requirements.
Support anomaly investigations and root cause analyses.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities
Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout mooring operations.
Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, project requirements, and industry standards.
Lead HAZID, HAZOP, SIMOPS, JSA, and marine risk assessment activities.
Ensure permit-to-work systems and safe work practices are implemented effectively.
Participate in incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
Monitor environmental compliance during offshore activities.
Marine and Offshore Coordination
Interface with vessel masters, marine superintendents, offshore installation teams, and marine warranty surveyors.
Coordinate anchor handling tug vessels (AHTS), installation vessels, construction vessels, and support craft.
Support mobilization, offshore readiness reviews, and operational planning activities.
Participate in marine assurance and vessel suitability assessments.
Project Management and Reporting:
Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Monitor project performance, costs, risks, and progress against established objectives.
Prepare operational reports, technical reviews, and management updates.
Participate in client meetings, project reviews, and stakeholder engagements.
Knowledge Transfer and Team Development:
Mentor and develop local engineers, marine personnel, and offshore supervisors.
Lead technical training and knowledge transfer initiatives.
Support workforce competency development and succession planning programs.
Promote continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Offshore Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Master's Degree in a relevant engineering or management discipline is advantageous.
Professional engineering registration or membership of a recognized engineering institution is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 10 years' experience in offshore marine operations, mooring systems, offshore installation, or marine construction within the oil and gas industry.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in senior supervisory, management, or technical leadership roles related to mooring operations.
Extensive experience with FPSO, FSO, floating production systems, CALM buoys, SPM systems, and offshore mooring installations.
Proven experience supporting deepwater and ultra-deepwater offshore developments.
International offshore project experience is highly preferred.
Demonstrated experience managing complex offshore mooring campaigns and multidisciplinary teams.
Required Certifications
BOSIET/FOET with CA-EBS.
HUET Certification.
Offshore Medical Certificate.
HAZID/HAZOP and Risk Assessment Training.
Incident Investigation Training.
Project Management Certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is advantageous.
Any client-specific or project-required certifications.
Technical Skills
Expert knowledge of offshore mooring systems, marine operations, and offshore installation methodologies.
Extensive experience with anchors, chains, synthetic ropes, suction piles, turret systems, and buoy mooring systems.
Strong understanding of mooring integrity management, inspection, and maintenance programs.
Familiarity with DNV, API, ISO, IMCA, IOGP, and international offshore industry standards.
Ability to review engineering analyses, installation procedures, risk assessments, and technical documentation.
Strong project planning, execution, and marine coordination capabilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and project management software.
