Job Title: Resident Medical Officer

Job Purpose
The Resident Medical Officer is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care, emergency response services, occupational health support, and preventive healthcare programs for employees, their dependents, and other authorized patients.
The incumbent will ensure high-quality clinical services, regulatory compliance, accurate medical documentation, and effective implementation of workplace health and safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Patient Management:
Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
Conduct medical consultations, physical examinations, and health assessments.
Prescribe medications and treatment plans in accordance with applicable medical regulations and ethical standards.
Perform minor surgical procedures and other approved clinical interventions.
Provide emergency medical care and stabilize patients requiring urgent treatment or referral.
Coordinate patient referrals to specialist healthcare facilities when necessary.
Occupational Health and Workplace Wellness:
Implement occupational health programs and workplace health initiatives.
Conduct pre-employment, periodic, return-to-work, and fitness-for-duty medical examinations.
Advise management on occupational health risks and preventive measures.
Participate in disease surveillance, outbreak prevention, and health promotion campaigns.
Support implementation of health-related aspects of company HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) policies.
Medical Records and Regulatory Compliance:
Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient medical records.
Ensure compliance with applicable medical, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
Monitor medication usage and maintain proper drug administration practices.
Prepare periodic medical reports and healthcare statistics for management review.
Maintain compliance with relevant Nigerian healthcare regulations and professional standards.
Emergency Preparedness and Health & Safety:
Participate in emergency preparedness planning and workplace emergency response activities.
Provide medical support during emergencies, accidents, and health-related incidents.
Collaborate with HSE personnel to investigate workplace injuries and recommend corrective actions.
Advise management on healthcare regulations, public health issues, disease prevention, and workplace safety matters.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with nurses, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, HSE teams, and external healthcare providers.
Provide health education and medical counseling to employees and patients.
Foster positive relationships with patients, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by Management.
Qualifications and Experience
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Medical Degree (MBBS, MB BCh, or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Completion of Housemanship and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
Professional Certification:
Current practicing Licence issued by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Registration with relevant professional bodies.
Additional certifications in Occupational Health, Emergency Medicine, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), or related specialties will be an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years' post-qualification clinical experience.
Experience in occupational healthcare, industrial healthcare, plantation healthcare, hospital practice, or community healthcare will be an added advantage.
Age Requirements:
Preferably between 27 and 45 years.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
Technical Competencies:
Strong diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills.
Excellent emergency response and critical care abilities.
Ability to perform minor surgical procedures and medical interventions.
Sound knowledge of pharmacology, medication dispensing, and drug administration practices.
Knowledge of occupational health and workplace safety regulations.
Proficiency in maintaining accurate medical records and reports.
Good computer literacy and familiarity with electronic medical record systems.
