Malaria MFT Trainer - GoN at Jhpiego - John Hopkins University

Posted on Tue 14th Jul, 2026 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (0 comments)

Jhpiego, an Affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is a global leader in improving healthcare services for women and their families.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Malaria MFT Trainer - GoN

Job ID: 2026-7961
Locations: Ilorin, Kwara
Category: International Positions

Overview

  • Malaria continues to pose a major public health challenge in Africa, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths each year.
  • While artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) remain highly effective and are the recommended treatment for uncomplicated malaria, the emergence of resistance to artemisinin and partner drugs in other regions presents a growing threat.
  • Although no confirmed artemisinin resistance has been reported in Nigeria, its emergence would have serious consequences for malaria treatment, disease control, and public health.
  • The National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) in collaboration with Jhpiego (Johns Hopkins University affiliate) is implementing Scaling the Optimal Use of Multiple ACTs to Prevent Antimalarial Drug Resistance (STOP-AMDR) through the WHO recommended Multiple Firstline Therapies (MFT).
  • The STOP-AMDR project is designed as implementation science research, generating evidence on feasibility, acceptability, cost-impact, and programmatic approaches to inform national policy and potential scaleup.
  • To support the effective rollout of MFT, experienced National and State Malaria Case Management Trainers will be engaged to facilitate a three-day competency-based training for healthcare workers in Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State. This training will strengthen the knowledge and practical competencies of healthcare workers on updated malaria diagnosis, treatment, case management, pharmacovigilance, data recording and reporting, and the implementation of the Multiple First-line Treatment (MFT) strategy.
  • The training will adopt cluster participatory adult learning approaches, demonstrations, practical sessions, group work, case studies, simulations, and competency assessments.
  • Jhpiego is seeking a national recommended malaria trainer for this role with supervision by Jhpiego.

Responsibilities

  • Review and familiarize with the developed Training Manual and all supporting training materials before the commencement of the training.
  • Facilitate assigned technical sessions on malaria diagnosis, treatment, newer ACTs, MFT implementation, pharmacovigilance, and patient counselling.
  • Deliver practical demonstrations on malaria diagnosis using recommended diagnostic tools, data capturing and reporting tool and appropriate treatment protocols.
  • Guide participants through clinical case discussions, simulations, role plays, and practical exercises to reinforce learning.
  • Support pre-test and post-test assessments and contribute to participant competency evaluations.
  • Mentor participants during practical sessions and provide technical clarification where required.
  • Support group work, presentations, and peer learning activities throughout the training.
  • Ensure that training sessions are delivered in accordance with national guidelines and adult learning principles.
  • Work closely with the training coordinator and co-facilitators to ensure effective delivery of the training agenda.
  • Participate in daily review meetings to assess training progress, identify emerging issues, and recommend improvements where necessary.
  • Prepare and submit session reports, participant assessment results, and recommendations for strengthening future training.
  • Promote active participation, professionalism, and adherence to safeguarding and ethical standards throughout the training.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in public health or medical degree (MBBS), Paediatrics, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, or another relevant health discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a national trainer.
  • Advanced training or certification in malaria case management, malaria microscopy, malaria diagnosis, malaria programme implementation, or related technical areas will be an added advantage.
  • Recognized National or State Malaria Case Management Trainer with demonstrated experience facilitating malaria technical trainings.
  • Good knowledge of the National Malaria Strategic Plan, National Guidelines for Malaria Case Management, WHO malaria treatment recommendations, and current malaria elimination strategies.
  •  Previous experience supporting the implementation of new malaria treatment policies, including Multiple First-line Treatment (MFT), is highly desirable.
  •  Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
  • Excellent technical knowledge of malaria diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and case management.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, mentoring, and coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver competency-based and adult learning trainings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage multidisciplinary audiences.
  • Ability to facilitate practical demonstrations and clinical simulations effectively.
  • Experience working collaboratively with government institutions, development partners, and professional associations.
  • Ability to prepare concise technical reports and document training outcomes.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
