Biase Plantations Limited is a subsidiary of Wilmar International Limited, Singapore, one of Asia’s leading agribusiness groups. Incorporated on 9 February 2011, Biase Plantations Limited has established itself as a major player in Nigeria’s palm oil industry. The company operates an integrated oil palm project in Cross River State, Nigeria, covering over 34,000 hectares of plantations and a state-of-the-art palm oil mill. It stands as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s palm oil sector, combining large-scale plantation management with advanced processing facilities, and contributing to both local and global agribusiness growth.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Truck Driver

Location: Uwet, Akamkpa Local Government Area - Cross River 
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of goods, materials, equipment, and products to designated destinations while ensuring compliance with transportation regulations, company policies, road safety standards, and operational requirements.
  • The role is responsible for maintaining assigned vehicles in a roadworthy condition, safeguarding cargo, and contributing to the overall efficiency of logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities
Transportation and Delivery Operations:

  • Operate trucks safely and professionally to transport goods and materials to designated locations.
  • Ensure timely delivery and collection of products, equipment, and supplies.
  • Plan and follow optimal delivery routes to maximize efficiency and meet delivery schedules.
  • Comply with all traffic laws, transportation regulations, and company driving policies.
  • Verify delivery instructions and ensure accurate dispatch and receipt of cargo.
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate delivery documentation and proof of delivery records.

Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance:

  • Conduct daily pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles.
  • Check vehicle systems, including brakes, tires, lights, steering, fuel, oil, coolant, and safety equipment.
  • Report vehicle defects, damages, accidents, and maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition at all times.
  • Coordinate routine servicing and preventive maintenance activities as directed.

Cargo Handling and Security:

  • Inspect cargo before loading and unloading to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure proper loading, securing, and distribution of cargo to prevent damage during transit.
  • Verify cargo quantities against delivery documents and manifests.
  • Protect company assets and cargo from theft, loss, contamination, or damage.
  • Monitor cargo condition throughout transportation and report discrepancies immediately.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, mileage, fuel consumption, delivery schedules, and trip logs.
  • Complete delivery notes, transport manifests, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Report delays, incidents, breakdowns, accidents, or route deviations promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory transportation and documentation requirements.

Health, Safety, and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and security regulations.
  • Follow safe driving practices and defensive driving principles.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, government transportation regulations, and industry standards.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, and roadside incidents.

Customer and Stakeholder Service:

  • Maintain professional relationships with customers, suppliers, security personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization professionally during deliveries and collections.
  • Address delivery-related concerns courteously and escalate issues where necessary.

  • On-time delivery rate.
  • Accident-free driving record.
  • Vehicle inspection and maintenance compliance.
  • Fuel efficiency performance.
  • Cargo damage and loss rate.
  • Compliance with transportation regulations and company policies.
  • Accuracy and completeness of transport documentation.
  • Customer satisfaction ratings.
  • Reduction in vehicle downtime.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent.
  • Additional vocational or technical training in transportation or logistics is an advantage.

Professional Certifications:

  • Valid commercial driver's license appropriate for the vehicle category.
  • Defensive Driving Certification is an advantage.
  • Valid medical fitness certificate where required by law.

Experience:

  •  3–5 years of proven experience operating heavy-duty trucks or commercial vehicles.
  • Experience in logistics, distribution, manufacturing, agribusiness, construction, or related industries is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of local and interstate transportation routes.

  • Excellent truck driving and vehicle handling skills.
  • Sound knowledge of transportation regulations and road safety requirements.
  • Ability to conduct vehicle inspections and identify mechanical issues.
  • Understanding of cargo loading, securing, and transportation procedures.
  • Basic vehicle troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to maintain transportation records accurately.

  • Physically fit and capable of handling loading and unloading activities when required.
  • Ability to sit and drive for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel long distances and work flexible schedules, including weekends and public holidays when necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent travel within and outside assigned operational areas.
  • Exposure to varying road, traffic, and weather conditions.
  • Occasional work during nights, weekends, and emergency operational requirements.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and outdoor environmental conditions depending on operational assignments.

Salary
N125,000 - N150,000 per month.
