Job Title: Marine Engineer

Job Description
The Marine Engineer will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, inspection, and technical management of marine vessels, dredgers, barges, tugboats, and associated marine equipment used in construction, dredging, and offshore operations.
The role ensures that all marine assets are maintained in a safe, efficient, and seaworthy condition while complying with statutory regulations, classification society requirements, and company HSE standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, supervise, and coordinate the maintenance and repair of marine vessels and equipment.
Ensure the efficient operation of propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, pumps, hydraulic systems, and marine mechanical equipment.
Monitor vessel performance and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Prepare preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for marine assets.
Conduct routine inspections of engines, machinery, and onboard systems.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and engineering faults on marine vessels.
Ensure compliance with Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), International Maritime Organization (IMO), and classification society requirements.
Coordinate dry-docking activities, vessel repairs, and equipment overhauls.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment logs, and technical documentation.
Liaise with vessel masters, marine crews, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
Support procurement of marine spare parts and engineering materials.
Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
Ensure strict compliance with HSE policies, permit-to-work systems, and environmental regulations.
Provide technical support during marine construction, dredging, and offshore operations.
Participate in commissioning, testing, and acceptance of new marine equipment and vessels.
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (B.Eng.) Marine Engineering
COREN registration is an added advantage.
Membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) or other relevant professional bodies is required.
Marine engineering certification, STCW certification, or relevant marine competency certificates are added advantages.
Experience:
5–10 years relevant experience in marine engineering, vessel maintenance, dredging, offshore support, or marine construction.
Proven experience working with dredgers, tugboats, barges, offshore support vessels, or similar marine equipment.
Experience in preventive maintenance, dry-docking, and marine equipment troubleshooting.
Familiarity with marine engineering standards and statutory compliance requirements.
Experience working on oil & gas, marine infrastructure, dredging, or EPC projects is an added advantage.
Other Requirements:
Physically fit and medically certified for offshore and marine operations.
Willingness to work offshore, onboard vessels, and at remote project locations.
Strong knowledge of NIMASA, IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other applicable maritime regulations.
Ability to interpret marine engineering drawings, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
Good report writing and technical documentation skills.
Valid offshore certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET, Medical Certificate) are an added advantage for offshore assignments.
Strong understanding of marine HSE requirements and permit-to-work systems.
Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
