Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Abuja (FCT)

Main Functions
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, effective internal controls, and sound financial management practices.
The role supports strategic decision-making by providing timely financial analysis, supervising accounting activities, and ensuring the integrity of financial records.
The ideal candidate must possess strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Role Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Accounting:
Prepare and review daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
Prepare profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and management reports.
Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to management.
General Ledger Management:
Oversee general ledger activities and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded.
Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and adjusting entries.
Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing processes.
Maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts.
Budgeting and Financial Planning:
Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts.
Monitor departmental budgets and analyze budget variances.
Support management with financial planning and cost optimization initiatives.
Prepare financial projections and performance reports.
Accounts Payable and Receivable Oversight:
Supervise accounts payable and receivable processes.
Review supplier payments and customer collections.
Ensure timely reconciliation of customer and vendor accounts.
Monitor outstanding receivables and recommend collection strategies.
Bank, Cash, and Asset Management:
Review bank reconciliations and cash management reports.
Monitor cash flow and liquidity requirements.
Maintain fixed asset registers and oversee depreciation schedules.
Verify cash transactions and ensure compliance with financial procedures.
Taxation and Statutory Compliance:
Ensure timely preparation and filing of tax returns and statutory remittances.
Monitor compliance with tax regulations and financial reporting requirements.
Liaise with regulatory authorities on financial matters where necessary.
Maintain proper documentation for statutory audits and inspections.
Internal Controls and Audit Support:
Implement and monitor effective internal control systems.
Assist with internal and external audit exercises.
Investigate financial discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
Team Leadership and Development:
Supervise accountants, finance officers, and other finance personnel.
Review the work of junior accounting staff to ensure accuracy.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
Promote continuous improvement within the finance department.
Financial Systems and Process Improvement:
Ensure effective utilization of accounting software and ERP systems.
Recommend improvements to accounting processes and financial controls.
Support automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.
Maintain confidentiality and security of financial information.
Reporting and Management Support:
Prepare financial reports for senior management and executive meetings.
Present financial insights to support strategic decision-making.
Support special financial projects and assignments as required.
Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Finance or Management.

Accuracy and timeliness of financial reports
Successful completion of month-end and year-end closing activities

Experience / Qualification
Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Professional qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, ANAN, or equivalent is required.
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is an added advantage.
5–8 years experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2–3 years in a senior accounting or supervisory role.
Experience in the hospitality or hotel industry is an added advantage.
Proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel is required.
Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, statutory compliance, and financial reporting standards.
