Public Health Business Development Lead (Market Access Healthcare) at DP World

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Regulatory Pharmacy Executive, Market Access Healthcare

Location: Lagos

Job Context

  • Lead the public health regional business development ambitions, by engaging MOH’s, funders, donors and related stakeholders to develop relationships, understand ways of working, and secure advanced knowledge of health-related procurement and supply chain related opportunities for DP World in the region. This role will drive the growth of DP World’s public health revenues in African markets by developing and executing a robust engagement strategy in the region.
  • DP World is expanding its healthcare and pharmaceutical capabilities to support access to affordable, high-quality medical products in the public health sector across Africa. This role is central to developing an understanding of the Ministry of Health, Central Medical Stores and public health supply chains in the markets within the region, with an ultimate view to gaining healthcare supply related business opportunities to increase the revenue and profitability for the DP World business units operating in the public health environment in Africa.
  • The Public Health BD Lead will operate at the intersection of customer relationship and account management, revenue generation, business operations and market expansion, in multiple markets in Africa. The role requires an understanding and appreciation of public health systems and Ministry of Health ways of working, with an ability to engage stakeholders at multiple levels within governments health infrastructures, and DP World hierarchy.
  • The successful candidate will be instrumental in enabling DP World to partner with African Ministries of Health and Funders/Donors operating across the continent to secure revenue opportunities across the supply chain, prioritizing sourcing and procurement.

Key Performance Areas
Business Development & Partner Onboarding:

  • Meet and exceed sales revenue targets in public health across the African region.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of customer opportunities across the therapeutic areas including essential medicines, devices & equipment, and consumables.
  • Negotiate commercial terms, tender agreements, and partnership frameworks with various customers, partners and funders within the public health sector.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard local African distribution partners aligned with DP World’s in-country and above-country distribution businesses in public, humanitarian aid and private healthcare sectors.
  • Conduct due diligence and capability assessments of potential partners.

Strategic Market Expansion:

  • Work closely with DP World’s Humanitarian Aid and Market Access teams in Africa to match tenders and emergency healthcare needs with business capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for portfolio expansion (incl. Imres branded products) based on market intelligence and customer needs in Africa.
  • Gather and share market intelligence for the region of responsibility.
  • Identify and develop RFIs, RFQs, RFPs in conjunction with the Tender Lead for opportunities in PH.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Liaise with private market healthcare, freight, logistics, warehousing, and regulatory teams to ensure seamless supply chain execution.
  • Coordinate with finance and legal teams to manage contracts, payment terms, and risk mitigation.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on customer performance, market trends, and BD progress.
  • Identify cross-functional opportunities and pass these on to the relevant BD person or capability.
  • Collaborate with other BD leads in other regions in Africa on joint opportunities that may span more than one area.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Track KPIs related to order inflow generation, sales revenue, margins, customer and partner onboarding, pipeline, trends, and market penetration.
  • Maintain dashboards and reports to monitor progress against strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare industry (minimum 3 years in the public health sector) with focus on sales, distribution and business development in multiple African markets and specifically in the region of interest.
  • An understanding of public health systems and government public health processes.
  • Proven track record in customer relationship management negotiations, and business development.
  • Experience in healthcare agent identification, partnering, contracting, due diligence and capability assessments are essential.
  • Experience in global healthcare supply chains is a plus.

Skills and Experience required:

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with government stakeholders, partner agents' distributors, regulators, and internal stakeholders. Skilled in managing cross-cultural and cross-functional collaborations.
  • Understanding of business operations, industry dynamics, and key drivers of financial performance. Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and priorities.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of developing and executing long-term strategies that align with business goals, market dynamics, and customer needs across multiple geographies.
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical regulations, WHO GMP standards, and African regulatory frameworks. Ability to navigate complex compliance and procurement environments.
  • Advanced MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word skills required.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously. Experience in leading customer onboarding and market entry initiatives.
