Job Title: Matron

Duties & Resposibilities
- Managing and supervising operational issues in the Clinic
- Managing the duty roster and allocating the staff depending on the workload.
- Assisting the Doctors to put forward nursing policies and protocols and monitoring its adherence by the staff.
- Finding out the problem areas and discussing them with the Nursing Officers to develop a practical solution.
- Recording the data required for evaluating the quality indicators and measuring the same.
- Accountable for the equipment’s used in the nursing and clinical care areas.
- Monitoring the resource (linen, consumables, medicine, etc) allocation among different units.
- Encouraging the participation of nursing staff in the training activities.
- Providing on the job training as and when variances observed.
- To go on rounds to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing services.
- Officiates in the absence of Doctors.
- Participates in the formulation of Nursing Services, philosophies, objectives and SOPs.
- Assists in the recruitment of Nursing Staff.
- Helps in allocating Nursing personnel to various Nursing Services Departments.
- Keeps records and reports of the Nursing Services.
- Assists in planning and organizing the new units in the hospital.
- Maintains confidential reports & reports of the Nursing Staff.
- Takes regular hospitals rounds.
- Supervises care given in various departments
- Interprets the policies & procedures of the clinical care to subordinate staff and others.
- Acts as a liaison officer between the Doctors and the Nursing staff of the clinic.
- Attends to emergency calls in rotation concerning clinic or hostel problems.
- Review medication errors/adverse reaction/sentinel events.
- Review outcome measures in the clinic.
- Assists in planning and implementing staff development programmes.
- Guides and counsels nursing staff.
- Arranges orientation programmes for new nursing staff.
- Maintains discipline among nursing personnel
- Arranges and participates in professional and social functions of the students.
- Maintains good public relations.
- Carries out other duties assigned to her by the Doctor.
Qualification, Experience, Skills and Competencies
- BSc. Nursing, Graduate of School of Nursing (Certified from the Nursing Council of Nigeria) or any equivalent Certificate from any recognized Nursing school.
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ work experience
- Must be a registered Nurse or Midwife with a valid practice license.
- Ability to communicate properly and effectively with parents and all stakeholders
- Ability to work in a team, work without close supervision and within established timeframes.
- Capability to manage a variety of patients and tasks throughout the day.
- Infection Control.
- Nursing Skills, Health Promotion and Maintenance.
- Pain Management, Acute/Critical Care
- Proficiency in the usage of Microsoft Office tools
- Prior experience working in private or government hospital setting.
- Attention to details, organization and problem solving skills
- High level of proactivity and ability to follow through on assigned tasks
- High sense of commitment, responsibility andaccountability
- High integrity and ethical standards.
