Job Title: Expressions of Interest - African Development Review Editor - ECMR

Description

  • The African Development Bank hereby invites qualified academician and researchers (Individual Consultant/s) to indicate their interest in the following Assignment: AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT REVIEW (ADRev) EDITOR
  • The services to be provided under this assignment include: Reviewing services for the ADRev, which is a professional journal devoted to the study and analysis of development policy in Africa.
  • The journal is supported by the African Development Bank and published at least quarterly. The Editor is expected to provide intellectual and editorial leadership to elevate the rank and relevance of the journal with an emphasis on policy-relevance of research findings.
  • The Editor will be responsible for ensuring that the content of the journal is of high quality in terms of accuracy, validity, reliability, credibility, authority, readability, and relevance to the journal’s scope and mission.

Roles and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Editor include reviewing article submissions and preparing them for publication. Specifically, this entails the following:

  • Perform an initial review of submitted manuscripts and determine if the submission is publishable and suitable for the scope of the journal;
  • Recommend manuscripts to the Editorial Assistant to select and assign expert peer reviewers;
  • Monitor the review process;
  • Sort through feedback to steer authors, especially regarding differences in opinion and perspectives among reviewers; contradictory suggestions; and possible errors, among others;
  • Make a final publication decision based on feedback from reviewers;
  • Manage revision process (if applicable);
  • Schedule accepted manuscripts for publication;
  • Manage the flow, Editorial, and publication processes of selected manuscripts;
  • Correspond with authors submitting manuscripts and reviewers;
  • Work with guest editors (if any), Editorial assistants, and/or clerical/secretarial staff;
  • Work with the Editorial Committee to produce a high-quality Journal based on the needs of the readership;
  • Responsibility for Quality of Content - The Editor is responsible for ensuring that the content of the journal is of a high quality in terms of accuracy, validity, reliability, credibility, authority, readability, and relevance to the journal’s scope and mission;
  • The Editor has editorial content responsibility for the publication. The Editor and the Editorial Committee reserve the right to accept or reject any material submitted for publication, as well as to edit any materials submitted for publication;
  • Select or serve as a Guest Editor on Special Issue of the Journal; Attend and contribute to Editorial Board meetings whenever convened; and
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Task Manager and the Director.

Competencies
The candidate should have:

  • Ph.D. degree in Economics;
  • Extensive academic publications record on issues pertinent economic development of Africa;
  • Renowned and highly respected in the field of Development Economics;
  • Extremely disciplined, attentive to details, professional, and timely in all correspondences;
  • Competent in the use and navigation of the online submission and manuscript management platform (Scholar One Manuscript Central) of the journal; and
  • Previous experience in journal editing is an added advantage.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of academic and research experience with experience in serving as a journal editor or associate editor.

Duration and Remuneration

  • The Consultant will be hired on a part-time basis from 15 March 2023 to 14 September 2023.
  • Remuneration will be commensurable with experience, in line with the Bank Group’s compensation guidelines.
  • The consultant will be responsible for his/her personal health insurance at his own cost, including all medical expenses resulting from illnesses or injuries that may happen during the assignment.

  • The eligibility criteria, the establishment of a shortlist, and the selection procedure shall be in conformity with the Bank’s Procurement Policy and Procedure for Corporate Consultants Interest expressed by a consultant does not imply any obligation on the part of the Bank to include him/her in the shortlist.
