Job Title: Head, People and Culture

Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Work schedule: Hybrid

Job Summary

  • The Head, People and Culture is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the development, implementation, and management of human resources policies, processes, and initiatives to ensure a high-performing and inclusive work environment.
  • This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution to attract, develop, and retain top talent while fostering a culture aligned with the organization’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the organization’s People and Culture strategy to align with overall business objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team, providing insights and recommendations on workforce planning, organizational design, and change management.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, ensuring they are embedded across all aspects of the organization.
  • Oversee recruitment and selection processes to attract top talent, ensuring alignment with organizational needs and culture.
  • Develop and implement employee retention strategies, including career development programs, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Shape and sustain a positive organizational culture that aligns with company values.
  • Lead efforts to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction through regular feedback mechanisms, surveys, and action plans.
  • Promote open communication and foster an environment of collaboration and respect.
  • Design and implement learning and development programs to enhance employee skills and leadership capabilities.
  • Ensure continuous professional growth opportunities through coaching, mentorship, and training initiatives.
  • Oversee the design and management of competitive compensation structures and benefits programs.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and industry standards while maintaining equity across roles and departments.
  • Lead the development and implementation of performance management systems, including goal setting, evaluations, and recognition programs.
  • Provide guidance to managers on employee performance improvement and career development plans.
  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Oversee HR operations, including payroll, benefits administration, and employee records management.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and legal requirements.
  • Build, mentor, and lead the People and Culture team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative environment.
  • Serve as a role model for leadership behaviors and the organization’s core values.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Experience: At least 7 years of progressive HR experience, with 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
  • Certifications: Professional HR certifications such as SHRM-CP, CIPM, CIPD, or HRCI are preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and build relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Deep knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
  • Experience with HR systems and analytics for data-driven decision-making.
