Job Summary
- This role is critical to ensuring product availability, driving sales growth, and strengthening relationships with neighborhood retail stores.
- The Van Sales Representative will be responsible for selling and delivering company products directly to assigned retail outlets using a company-provided van.
- The ideal candidate must be commercially aware, target-driven, and capable of managing end-to-end van sales operations—from order generation to delivery, merchandising, and collection.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Revenue Generation:
- Drive daily sales by selling company products directly to neighborhood retail stores within assigned routes and territories.
- Achieve and exceed assigned daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets in line with company objectives.
- Actively identify new sales opportunities within assigned routes by onboarding new retail outlets and expanding existing accounts.
- Promote company products, new launches, and ongoing trade promotions to retailers to increase product uptake and visibility.
Route Management & Coverage:
- Effectively plan and manage daily sales routes to ensure optimal coverage of all assigned retail outlets.
- Ensure consistent visitation of all mapped outlets and maximize productive selling time during each visit.
- Maintain strong market presence by monitoring competitor activities, pricing, promotions, and distribution strategies.
Van & Inventory Management:
- Safely operate and maintain the company-assigned sales van, ensuring compliance with all road safety and company policies.
- Load, offload, and manage van inventory efficiently, ensuring correct stock levels and proper product handling.
- Conduct daily stock counts, reconcile sales against inventory, and promptly report shortages, damages, or variances.
- Ensure the cleanliness and roadworthiness of the van at all times.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with retailers and distributors within assigned territories.
- Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally while escalating unresolved issues appropriately.
- Provide accurate product information, pricing details, and delivery timelines to customers.
Cash Handling & Reporting:
- Accurately collect cash and/or manage credit sales in line with company policies.
- Ensure timely remittance of all sales proceeds and proper documentation of Prepare and submit daily sales reports, stock movement reports, and route activity reports.
Merchandising & Brand Visibility:
- Ensure proper product display and merchandising at retail outlets in line with company standards.
- Implement point-of-sale materials and ensure shelves are well-stocked, clean, and attractive.
- Monitor product freshness and ensure FIFO (First-In, First-Out) compliance.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets.
- Volume and value of sales generated per route.
- Number of active retail outlets serviced per day.
- New outlets opened within assigned territory.
- Stock accuracy and inventory reconciliation rate.
- Timely and accurate submission of sales and cash reports.
- Customer satisfaction and retention levels.
- Van maintenance compliance and zero-loss record.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Van Sales Representative or similar role within the FMCG
- industry, preferably from top FMCG companies.
- Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets in a field sales environment.
- Minimum of an OND in any field or discipline of study.
- A strong ability to converse clearly in English is a must.
- Valid Nigerian driver’s license with proven ability to drive vans confidently and safely.
- LASRRA card is mandatory for applicants based in Lagos.
