Founded in 2021 in Okija, Anambra State, Gonzaga Jesuit College is the fourth Jesuit secondary school in Nigeria, following those in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Lagos. It is run by the Society of Jesus, in collaboration with the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus, and welcomes both Christian and non-Christian students.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Chemistry Teacher

Location: Ihiala/Okija, Anambra
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Chemistry Teacher will be responsible for inspiring a deep understanding of chemical concepts, theories, and practical applications.
  • The ideal candidate will bridge theoretical knowledge with hands-on laboratory experiences, equipping students with strong analytical skills and preparing them thoroughly for both internal assessments and external examinations (such as WAEC, NECO, or Cambridge IGCSE).

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, structured lessons in organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry according to the prescribed curriculum.
  • Laboratory Management: Organize, supervise, and conduct practical laboratory sessions safely. Ensure students understand lab safety protocols, proper handling of chemical reagents, and correct usage of apparatus.
  • Exam Preparation: Prepare senior students intensively for practical and theoretical components of terminal regional or international examinations.
  • Assessment & Evaluation: Set valid test questions, grade laboratory reports and exams promptly, and provide constructive feedback to help students improve.
  • Inventory & Safety Control: Maintain an up-to-date inventory of laboratory chemicals and equipment. Ensure safe storage of hazardous materials and timely reporting of low stock.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and lesson plans, and participate actively in departmental and staff meetings.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed.) in Chemistry, or a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemistry/Biochemistry plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
  • Professional Certification: Registration with a relevant national teaching council or regulatory body (such as TRCN) is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 2–3 years of classroom and laboratory teaching experience at the secondary school level, with a documented history of strong student performance in external exams.

Other Requirements

  • Strong digital literacy, including the ability to utilize digital data loggers, interactive boards, and basic school management portals.
  • High level of professional ethics, integrity, and absolute dedication to ensuring a safe learning environment.
  • Willingness to collaborate with the Science Department, laboratory assistants, parents, and school administration.

Key Skills:

  • Subject Expertise: Advanced knowledge of core chemical principles, chemical equations, stoichiometry, and laboratory techniques.
  • Safety Conscious: Strict adherence to laboratory safety standards, with the ability to manage risks and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Analytical & Critical Thinking: Skill in guiding students through complex mathematical calculations in chemistry and scientific problem-solving.
  • Instructional Clarity: The ability to break down abstract molecular concepts into relatable, easy-to-understand demonstrations.
  • Organization: Strong management skills to balance classroom instruction, lab preparation, and grading.

Salary

  • N150,000 per month.
