We are a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company with depots across the country. Due to rapid growth and expansion, we urgently need a smart and resourceful individual to join our team to drive our continued success.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Head of Internal Audit, Controls and Risk Management

Key Responsibilities
Internal Audit Strategy, Policies & Procedures Management:

  • Develop and implement risk-based audit plans, internal audit policies, procedures, and control frameworks aligned with evolving regulatory standards and industry best practices.
  • Continually refine audit methodologies to stay responsive to changing business risks and regulatory landscapes.
  • Plan and oversee the execution of comprehensive audit programs across head office, factory, and depot operations, guided by detailed annual audit planning memoranda.
  • Design and deliver targeted training programs to strengthen audit staff competencies and reinforce quality delivery.

Management Advisory Services & Reporting:

  • Provide advisory services to Management and the Board, translating audit findings into insights on risk, internal control effectiveness, and operational improvements.
  • Identify and address operational inefficiencies, recommending practical solutions backed by audit evidence.
  • Prepare and present timely audit reports, control assessments, and strategic recommendations to management and the Board.

Compliance Monitoring & Control Reviews:

  • Evaluate adherence to budgets, business plans, and regulatory requirements through comprehensive control assessments.
  • Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of accounting, internal, and management controls, advocating for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor operational functions such as marketing, customer credit, and cash management to ensure efficiency and control.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of cash, bank balances, and financial controls to ensure integrity, liquidity, and compliance.

Operational Audit & Investigations:

  • Execute audit visits to depots, factories, and sites to verify compliance and control integrity in operational processes.
  • Lead investigative audits into fraud, control breaches, and operational inefficiencies as needed.
  • Synthesize findings into actionable insights and risk mitigation recommendations to enhance control environments and operational effectiveness.
  • Track post-investigation remediation actions to ensure timely and effective implementation.

Risk-Based Audits of Materials, Procurement & Resource Management:

  • Conduct audits of procurement processes, vendor transactions, and supply chain activities to assess compliance, pricing integrity, and value for money.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of maintenance and materials planning processes in supporting operational efficiency and risk mitigation.
  • Review inventory and stock management controls to detect waste, fraud, or process lapses in warehouse and factory operations.
  • Integrate audit findings into enterprise risk assessments and recommend control enhancements related to procurement and material usage.

Team Leadership & Performance Management:

  • Lead and develop the internal audit team spread across head office and factory sites, including assigning roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitor team performance, provide tailored feedback, and identify skill development or training gaps.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability, professional excellence, and continuous learning within the audit function.
  • Facilitate succession planning by mentoring potential audit leaders and creating pathways for upward development.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, and/or CISA are required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in internal audit and/or public accounting, including at least 7 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial auditing principles, including GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in audit methodologies covering operational, financial, IT, and data analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage audit teams and projects effectively across organizational levels.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
