Job Purpose

  • The Transport Supervisor is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and optimizing daily transportation operations across assigned locations.
  • The role ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of personnel, materials, and operational resources while maintaining high standards of fleet availability, driver performance, regulatory compliance, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance.
  • The position oversees drivers, fleet operations, dispatch activities, fuel management, vehicle maintenance coordination, and transport performance monitoring to ensure seamless transportation service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Transport Operations Management:

  • Coordinate and supervise the daily dispatch of company vehicles in accordance with approved transport requests.
  • Ensure journey plans are validated and approved before execution.
  • Monitor fleet positioning, vehicle utilization, and availability in real time.
  • Resolve operational challenges and escalate critical issues where necessary.
  • Ensure effective deployment of staff buses, pool vehicles, and operational vehicles to support business requirements.

Driver Supervision & Workforce Management:

  • Supervise company and contractor drivers and dispatch personnel.
  • Develop driver schedules, shift rosters, and rotation plans.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, discipline, and overall performance.
  • Enforce company driving standards, transport procedures, and code of conduct.
  • Conduct driver briefings, coaching sessions, and performance reviews.
  • Address employee welfare issues and maintain a positive working environment.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all transport operations.
  • Ensure compliance with defensive driving standards and journey management procedures.
  • Enforce speed management and fatigue management policies.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and transport safety inspections.
  • Participate in the investigation of transport incidents and accidents.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to minimize risks and improve safety performance.
  • Ensure the safety of personnel, assets, goods, and other road users.

Fleet Performance & Monitoring:

  • Monitor driver behavior using telematics and fleet management systems.
  • Analyze vehicle utilization, route efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Track vehicle downtime and ensure timely resolution of maintenance-related issues.
  • Support route optimization and effective vehicle allocation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve fleet productivity and operational efficiency.

Vehicle Maintenance & Asset Management:

  • Ensure completion of pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with workshops and service providers.
  • Monitor vehicle condition, roadworthiness, and compliance with maintenance schedules.
  • Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of fleet monitoring systems including IVMS and related technologies.

Fuel Management & Cost Control:

  • Monitor fuel issuance, consumption, and utilization trends.
  • Identify fuel-related anomalies, inefficiencies, and potential misuse.
  • Promote fuel-efficient driving practices across the fleet.
  • Support fuel inventory control and reporting processes.
  • Contribute to budget management and cost optimization initiatives within transport operations.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle utilization, driver performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly transport operations reports.
  • Report operational risks, safety concerns, and performance gaps to management.
  • Maintain transport documentation and ensure compliance with company requirements.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by management.

Qualifications
Education:

  • HND or Bachelor's Degree in Transport Management, Logistics, Engineering, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in transport, logistics, fleet management, or general services within a large organization.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience in logistics, engineering, transportation, or a related operational environment.
  • Experience supervising drivers, fleet operations, and transport contractors is desirable.
