Job Summary
- We are seeking a meticulous, highly analytical, and ICAN-certified Accountant I to oversee and maintain the overall integrity of our financial operations.
- Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end bookkeeping, cash flow management, inventory control, statutory tax compliance, and financial reporting.
- The ideal candidate must possess advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office tools, ensuring strict compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Record Keeping & Bookkeeping:
- Maintain accurate, complete and up-to-date daily records of all financial activities across the company.
- Ensure financial statements are accurate, well-reconciled and readily accessible at all points in time.
Voucher Management & Disbursements:
- Raise payment vouchers for all corporate transactions, ensuring all supporting documents are attached and verified.
- Obtain signed approvals from the Managing Director prior to disbursement and maintain clean, audit-ready physical and digital files.
Financial Health Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare monthly financial reports and analysis that clearly reflect the company's financial health, cash flow status: Accounts Receivable until all outstanding receivables are fully recouped and operating performance for management decision-making.
Payroll Preparation & Statutory Compliance:
- Prepare monthly payroll schedules, verify details with the HR department prior to disbursement, and ensure full compliance by posting and reconciling statutory deductions (PAYE, Pension, NHF, NHIA etc).
Stock & Inventory Management:
- Maintain total oversight of company stock and inventories.
- Ensure an accurate and up-to-date inventory list at all times to prevent leakages, missing stock, or unrecorded movements.
Receivables & Cash Flow Control:
- Monitor sales and services rendered to customers to ensure timely billing and prompt payment collection.
- Implement effective follow-up mechanisms with internal teams and external customers to accelerate receivable collections.
Payables & Vendor Account Reconciliation:
- Reconcile all payables, receivables, and general control accounts on a regular basis.
- Liaise with internal departments and vendors/suppliers to reconcile accounts payable and maintain clean supplier balances.
Auditing, Taxation & Banking:
- Maintain comprehensive records of all VAT receipts and VAT suffered for timely monthly filing with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
- Prepare accurate records for annual audit purposes and liaise directly with external auditors to manage tax liabilities effectively.
- Monitor and generate periodic status reports on all corporate term loan accounts.
Requirements & Non-Negotiables
- Non-Negotiable –Full professional certification with ICAN is mandatory.
- Non-Negotiable –Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, modelling) and MS Office.
- Non-Negotiable – Compliance & Accuracy: Zero tolerance for unverified vouchers, unaccounted inventory, or late tax filings.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of verifiable core accounting experience.
- Core Skills: Deep understanding of FIRS tax laws, statutory payroll, and internal audit procedures.
