A Maritime Training Institute, is looking for suitable qualified candidates with a commercially minded management skill and strong passion for excellent delivery of performance to join our dynamic team in the position below:

Job Title: Rector

Job Overview

Responsible for the administration of the school and academic activities and liaises with external agencies such as NBTE, NIMASA and Ministry of Education in the development of acceptable curriculum and make sure they are utilized in the best of the school.
Oversees the teachers and makes sure that what is being taught is in line with the approved curriculum.

Job Function

Carries out the overall administration of the school and academic activities.
Liaises with external agencies such as NBTE, NIMASA and Ministry of Education in the development of an acceptable curriculum and make sure they are utilized in the best of the school.
Oversees the teachers and makes sure that what is being taught is in line with the approved curriculum.
Holds a meeting with the HOD’S to discuss academic developments related to their various departments.
Liaise with management to provide adequate infrastructures such as building workshops, laboratories and library.
Act as a bridge between management and school.
Organizes seminars both internally and externally for the development of the lecturers/instructors in order to acquaint them with modern teaching techniques.
Represent the school in local and international conferences and meetings in the areas affecting the school development.
Work closely with NBTE/NIMASA and the Ministry of Education to ensure that the school benefits from all aids and assistance occurring from the government.
Ensure that instructors/lecturers and academic staff are well remunerated and get all benefit associated with their work.
Acts as the chairman of the academic board and various academic meetings.
Meet with HOD’S from time to time to ensure lecturers/instructors are assigned an appropriate number of courses, inspect class procedure to make sure instructor/lecturers handles their lesson properly.
Carry out any other function as may be assigned by management and be accountable.

Job Specification

Hold a good honours degree and a higher degree, preferably a Doctorate degree, from a recognized Institution in any of the disciplines offered in the Institution. His/her academic standing must be very high and must have a good track record of accomplishment in the academic professional field;
Have held senior teaching and/or research post in an Institution of higher learning and must have been a Chief Lecturer or a comparable status in any other tertiary institution for a minimum of not less than five years, in any of the disciplines in the Polytechnic;
Understand the national, global and academic purpose of the Polytechnic and should have a wide administrative experience;
