News: Ethiopia Airlines To Recruit, and Train More Nigerians

Ethiopia Airlines has unveiled plan to recruit, and train more Nigerians as part of its contribution to the growth of the aviation sector.

Disclosing this in a media chat at the weekend in Abuja, the Managing Director of Ethiopia Airlines International, Mr Esayas Woldemariam, explained that plans were being made to increase the about 1,000 workforce of the airlines, out of which Nigerians constitute about 90 per cent, to 2,500 and by so doing helping the government to address the problem of unemployment in the country.

Woldermariam said the company had over the years placed priority on human capital quality in its operations globally, adding that the Ethiopia Aviation Academy has also trained over 100 Nigerians in all areas of airline operations including, pilot training, mechanical, marketing and finance capacity development programmes.

He said: "As matter of fact, over 1,000 of our staff here are Nigerians and we are trying to increase it to 2,500 because all the new routes we are planning to open as well as market expansion we embarked on will be manage by Nigerian. We are not bringing any foreign staff.

"Also, the Ethiopia Aviation Academy have enrolled and trains over 100 Nigerian in pilot training, mechanical, marketing and finance school annually", he added.

Speaking further he noted that 55 years of uninterrupted relation of Ethiopian Airlines was the result of outcome of strategies put in place for years to build confidence, customer relation and excellent service delivery.

Woldermariam said: "This year marked 55 years of dependable and reliable service in Nigeria in good and bad times because we came to Nigeria immediately after independence, we are not been interrupted whether military or civilian government. And we are only long serving airline in Nigeria. We fly Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Enugu routes.

"We have achieved this result in spite of security challenges, socioeconomic challenges and increased competition in the Nigeria airlines industry. The result clearly reaffirms that the Ethiopia Airlines is on the right track of becoming one of the bests in the world.
