The Network Engineer will be a member of a dynamic and high functioning team, and will be responsible for the network infrastructure.
The individual will design, implement, manage and troubleshoot data and IP based communication networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other data communications systems. The Network Engineer will research and recommend technical upgrades (hardware and software) to the current infrastructure and lead the implementation projects.
The individual will work closely with the IT team to provide cross functional maintenance and support on other technologies including voice, data and video systems.
This position has strong opportunities to enhance skills by participating in upgrades of existing systems as well as researching, designing and implementing new systems and services.
Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support emergencies and business goals.
Network Engineer Duties and Responsibilities
Design, configure and maintain multi-office network infrastructure
Troubleshoot and proactively resolve network anomalies/outages including low throughput, packet loss, errors, latency, delay and jitter, and conduct root cause analysis
Ensure network devices are deployed in accordance with vendor and industry recommended practices
Update firmware and make configuration changes
Recommend changes/improvements to the network for future growth and expansion
Manage and lead network related projects
Monitor and report on system performance and health
Create, update and maintain network diagrams and documentation
Work with outside vendors and carriers to maintain and troubleshoot existing services and implement new services
Configure and manage firewalls, and VPN client software
Maintain corporate wireless network
Participate in planning and implementation of disaster recovery processes and procedures
Network Engineer Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline and 4 years experience, or a minimum of 8 years hands on experience in network systems administration and support may be substituted
Skills:
Expert knowledge of subnetting, VLAN and DMZ configuration
Expert knowledge and troubleshooting of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP
Advanced knowledge of layer 2/3 WAN protocols such as MPLS, BGP, Frame Relay, ATM, PPP
Advanced knowledge of Firewalls; specifically CheckPoint/ASA
Advanced knowledge of implementing network security processes and controls
Advanced knowledge of network performance including QOS
Advanced knowledge of network design using Cisco best practices
Solid knowledge of Cisco IOS command line interface
Solid knowledge of wireless technologies including 802.11a/b/g/n and 802.16
Knowledge of Intrusion Detection/Intrusion Prevention systems
Knowledge of hardware load balancers
Strong project management and customer service skills
Ability to perform at a high level without much supervision
