Job Title: Cook
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Reporting: The School Chef
Job Brief
The School Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious and appetizing meals to students and staff in a school setting.
Responsibilities
Prepare and cook meals for students and staff, following recipes and menus provided by the school
Ensure that meals are nutritious, appetizing, and visually appealing
Maintain proper food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
Order and receive supplies, and maintain an inventory of food, supplies, and equipment
Clean and maintain kitchen utensils and equipment, including plates,spoons ovens, stove tops, and refrigerators
Work with the school policy to accommodate special dietary needs and food allergies
Collaborate with other school staff to promote healthy eating habits and nutrition education
Follow budgetary guidelines set by the school and manage food costs
Assist with menu planning and development.
Cook Key Performance Indicator
The Key Performance Indicator of the cook includes:
Meal quality: This KPI measures the quality and nutritional value of the meals prepared by the cook. A school district might set a goal of offering meals that meet certain nutritional guidelines or achieving a certain rating on student satisfaction surveys.
Food cost: This KPI measures the cost of the food used in the meals. A school district might set a goal of reducing food costs by a certain percentage without sacrificing meal quality.
Waste reduction: This KPI measures the amount of food waste generated during meal preparation. A school district might set a goal of reducing food waste by a certain percentage by implementing better inventory management practices, adjusting recipes to minimize waste, or encouraging students to take only what they will eat.
Compliance with regulations: This KPI measures the cook's adherence to local, state, and federal regulations for food preparation, handling, and storage. A school district might set a goal of achieving a certain score on an inspection or audit, or of having zero health code violations.
Staff management: This KPI measures the cook's ability to manage a team of kitchen staff, if applicable. A school district might set a goal of maintaining a low staff turnover rate, or of receiving positive feedback from staff members in surveys or performance reviews.
Job Requirements
Minimum of SSCE certificate or equivalent with at least 4 years experience
Prior experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen setting
Knowledge of food preparation and sanitation practices
Ability to follow recipes and menus, and adjust recipes to accommodate large quantities
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects, and work in a hot and fast-paced environment
