Job Title: Chief Operating Officer
Location: Lagos
Job Summary
Our client is looking to hire a Chief Operating Officer. The firm is seeking a dedicated team player that will oversee all organizational operations and general administration of the business.
The COO plans, directs, leads, coordinates, and monitors associated activities in the organization to drive cost-effective and sustainable growth.
This person will report directly to the Group Managing Director.
Job Responsibilities
The job responsibilities for this role will include:
COO Year One Key Objectives:
Strategic Plan. Works closely with Group Managing Director and business coach to complete organizational strategic plan and then takes lead on implementation.
Financial Forecast. Oversees the completion of a 5-year financial forecast reflective of the above strategic plan, including a revised 2023 budget.
Revenue Generation. Evaluates, plan, and execute revenue strategies to achieve revenue goals established by the Company.
Cost Controls. Optimizes expenditures to achieve gross margin and operating profit margins established by the Company.
People. Oversees the development, implementation, and institutionalization of a rigorous recruiting, identification, hiring, and onboarding process supporting the selection of high-performing employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Core Values. Embodies, activates, and promotes the organization’s established core values and purpose.
General Administration:
Serves as chief of staff, overseeing all functional leads.
Oversees risk management and business continuity.
Reviews contracts and agreements binding the organization.
Exercises an elevated level of discretion and confidentially when appropriate.
Maintains a hybrid work schedule blending onsite and remote work.
People:
Serves as the general manager of all employees, vendors, and clients.
Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed, provided, monitored, and assessed.
Presents periodic performance reports and metrics to the Group Managing Director and other leadership.
Oversees the onboarding, offboarding, and retention of employees, vendors, and clients.
Strategy:
Plans, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the organization’s operations and administration functions.
Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance throughout the organization on tactics and tasks to achieve results.
Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in property management and other core organizational focuses.
Execution:
Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.
Ensures that all departmental decisions and project plans are in line with the organization’s strategic plan and financial plan.
Ensures that brand reputation is always protected.
Establishes, communicates, and implements operations and administration-related policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.
Collaborates with other functions and departments to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives.
Leads weekly strategy and operations meetings.
Cash & Financial Oversight:
Ensures that annual budgets and quarterly re-forecasting are timely and reasonable to support sustainable growth.
Reviews cash levels at least weekly, is accountable for knowing how organizational funds are being used, and provides the Group Managing Director with regular updates on cash flow.
Reviews monthly financials with appropriate internal stakeholders to assess business performance, determine and implement required action, and adjust forecasts and strategies.
Ensures that all relevant internal and external stakeholders are apprised of appropriate financial information, reports, and objectives to remain compliant and drive business performance.
Reviews and approves cost-control reports, cost estimates, and staffing requirements for daily operations.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have the following attributes:
B.Sc. in Business, Commerce, Economics, or related discipline. MS/MBA is an added advantage.
Proven experience as a Chief Operating Officer.
At least 15 years of industry-related experience including three years in upper management strongly preferred.
Proven competency in strategic planning, business development, and establishing organizational accountability.
Experience with Scaling Up or Entrepreneurial Operating Systems (EOS).
