Police disqualify SSCE, Third Class holders from Police Recruitment

Posted on Tue 18th Dec, 2012 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (110 comments)

The Nigeria Police Service Commission says holders of Secondary School Certificate would no longer be accepted into the Nigeria Police Force as constables.

It said the minimum entry requirement now was Ordinary National Diploma.

The commission also stated that Third Class degree holders were no longer accepted as Cadet Inspectors, in line with the reform in the force.

REQUIRMENTS FOR NIGERIAN POLICE RECRUITMENT

PSC Commissioner and Chairman, Public Affairs Committee of the commission, Ms. Comfort Obi, who stated this at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, explained that the commission had reviewed the recruitment process into the police.

According to her, the PSC has over the years formulated policies aimed at the efficiency and discipline of the police force, adding that background checks are now carried out on applicants to separate bad eggs and discourage people of shady characters from joining the police.

Obi stated that polygraph tests were also carried out on applicants to determine drug users, alcoholics and liars that could tarnish the image of the force.

She said, "The mechanism put in place by the commission is in line with police regulations to ensure that bad eggs don’t find their way into the force. We are focusing on the recruitment process and have raised the minimum entry requirements.

"SSCE holders can no longer join the police as constables; even a third class degree holder cannot join the Cadet Inspector cadre. The minimum qualification for a constable is OND and it must include six credit passes in SSCE including Credit pass in English and Mathematics."

The PSC Commissioner in charge of Strategy, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, explained that written examinations had been introduced for applicants, adding that promotions in the force were based on merit.

He explained that 599 cases of indiscipline were treated between 2008 and 2011. He said 94 officers were compulsorily retired, and a number of others were sanctioned for various offences.

If the nigerian.police did not want schoossce certificate and third class certificate no problem becouse they have their reason. Those who sat for ascon exams in 2006 when the first and second batch have been called and are enjoying their certificate now even though some of have not seen the four walls of the university. Those who are still waiting with their second class and above certificate what is their fate? Some of them are now confirme inspectors with degrees of second class and above. When is the igp and the chairman psc going to send them on course to enable them enjoy their certificate before retirement? You can only get discipline in an organisation when you do that which is right. I employ the IGP and the chairman PSC to send the ASCON left canditates to course please

my regard to every one who has contributed immensely to this platform.the problems we have with the NPF is from the TOP they gave their way to the top so they must receive from their subordinates to keep the fire burning E.G:The boys brings returns to SO,SO to DPO, DPO to area commander, area commander to the state commissioner and commissioner to the IG of Police let them not deceive themselves & think they are deceiving Nigerians.we have the best policy in the world today but lack reputable leaders to execute it,to me their reasons 3cls n SSCE elimination is to increase the amount they intend to get from those who have the money to pay. as for me I don't like the job because of it corrupt leaders I know what my Dad suffered during his service years with the NPF.they should come to the national cables & lay the blame on the subordinates.they Engineer it from the top.
