Job Context
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Supervisor – Transport Operations to oversee the efficient utilization and deployment of transport assets while ensuring exceptional service delivery to clients.
The incumbent will act as a key interface between the business and its customers, coordinating fleet operations, supervising fleet controllers, monitoring vehicle performance, and ensuring compliance with safety, operational, and service standards.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in maximizing fleet utilization, improving operational efficiency, ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining strong customer relationships across the assigned region.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs)
Fleet Operations Management:
Coordinate and supervise daily transport operations and fleet deployment activities.
Ensure delivery of customer products in the right condition and within agreed timelines.
Manage and oversee the activities of Fleet Controllers.
Monitor trip performance, truck utilization, transit times, and fleet availability.
Coordinate vehicle inspections before and after deployment.
Escalate operational challenges and major incidents to the Transport Operations Manager.
Vehicle Monitoring and Maintenance:
Coordinate with Workshop Services and maintenance teams to ensure prompt resolution of vehicle faults.
Monitor preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
Follow up on vehicle repairs, breakdown recoveries, and in-transit rescue operations.
Ensure proper documentation of incidents, accidents, and insurance claims.
Client Relationship Management:
Serve as a key liaison between the business and customers.
Provide regular updates on vehicle and shipment status.
Escalate delivery delays and service-related issues promptly.
Foster strong customer relationships to support client retention and service excellence.
Operational Administration and Systems Compliance:
Act as a super user and coordinator for transport management systems such as ERP, i-Manager, and SAP.
Ensure accurate and timely updating of trips, loads, and operational data.
Coordinate the collection and management of Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation.
Maintain accurate operational records and transaction entries.
Revenue and Performance Management:
Reconcile trip revenues, mileage, PODs, and delivery timelines for billing purposes.
Review trip profitability and fleet performance metrics.
Reconcile operational records with client reports to ensure vehicle availability and revenue optimization.
Support continuous improvement initiatives through performance analysis.
Safety, Health, Environment and Compliance:
Promote and champion a strong safety culture within the operation.
Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory safety requirements.
Monitor and report safety violations through designated systems.
Facilitate toolbox talks and safety engagements with drivers and operational teams.
Reporting:
Generate and submit operational reports including:
Daily Trip Profitability Reports
Expected Delivery Date (EDD) Reports
Flash Reports
Fleet Utilization Reports
Safety and Incident Reports
Provide operational insights to support effective decision-making.
Qualifications Required
HND or Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional Certifications (Advantageous)
Associate Member of the Association of Inventory and Distribution Professionals (AIDP).
Supervisory Safety Course Level 3 – Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals.
General Safety Course – Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals.
Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) certification.
Skills and Experience Required:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in transport, logistics, fleet management, or a related industry.
Previous experience managing transport operations within a supply chain environment.
Experience in third-party logistics (3PL) operations.
Experience in fleet utilization, rescue and recovery operations, and customer service management.
Pre-MDS experience will be an added advantage.
Experience managing Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and/or Food & Beverage transport operations is desirable.
Good understanding of fleet management practices and transport operations.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
Experience using ERP systems and transport management platforms such as SAP and i-Manager.
Good knowledge of the Nigerian road network and transport regulations.
