Job Summary

• We are looking for meticulous and dedicated individuals with a strong grasp of the English language and the varied nuances of academic writing to support scholars in publishing their research. English Editors support academic research by editing the language of peer-reviewed papers to publication standards.
• Successful applicants undergo a probation period in which in-house training is provided by an experienced editor, after which there are opportunities to diversify the role and gain expertise in new areas.
• English Editors are responsible for overseeing the content quality, style, and accuracy of manuscripts in English through various stages of production.
• Editors collaborate with authors, writers, and other team members to ensure that published materials meet the high standards of the company and resonate with the target audience.
• Books to be reprinted are proofread by editors to ensure the camera-ready copy is devoid of screamers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Manuscript Evaluation and Editing:

• Review and evaluate manuscripts to assess content, organisation, clarity, and accuracy.
• Edit and proofread manuscripts to ensure adherence to editorial standards, grammar, style, and consistency.

Style and Guidelines Adherence:

• Implement and enforce editorial guidelines, company style guide, and industry best practices.
• Maintain consistency in style, tone, and voice across all publications.
• Good grasp of the Spectrum Brand and Spectrum Books products.

Collaboration with Authors and Writers:

• Collaborate closely with authors and writers to provide constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
• Communicate effectively to address queries and concerns while maintaining a positive working relationship.

Project Management:

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and prioritizing workload effectively.
• Coordinate with other departments, such as layout designers and production, to ensure seamless workflow and timely publication.

Fact-Checking and Research:

• Conduct fact-checking and research to verify the accuracy of information presented in the manuscripts.
• Cross-reference sources and citations to maintain credibility and authenticity of the content.

Content Enhancement:

• Suggest and implement enhancements to improve the readability, engagement, and overall quality of the content.
• Provide recommendations for reorganisation or restructuring of content to enhance its impact.

Feedback and Training:

• Stay updated with industry trends and best practices and share knowledge with the team.

Key Performance Indicators

• Maintaining a line of communication with new and existing authors.
• Preparing production quotations.
• Monitoring of printers and the production processes.
• Coordinating the yearly India reprint process
• Coordinating the UBEC titles files
• Coordination of the in-house processes for the reprint of regular titles.
• Coordinating and curating content to produce the Spectrum Books.
• Assessment of manuscripts.

Salary
N70,000 - N85,000 / month.
