Federal Ministry of Younth Decelopment - Following the approval of His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and in line with youth empowerment programme thrust under the Transformation Agenda of Mr. President, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) in conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) invite applications from suitably qualified young Nigerians to participate in the Junior Professional Officers’ Programme (JPO-P)
The Junior Professional Officers’ Programme (JPO-P) was established in 1963 to provide young professionals pursuing a career in development with hands-on experience in multilateral technical cooperation. It is funded with donations from donor countries. Currently, there are 19 sponsors comprising 16 countries from Europe and 3 from Asia. The programme is administered by the JPO Service Center in Copenhagen. Denmark and initially for one year with possibility of extension for another one year, depending on satisfactory performance making a total of two years objective of the programme

Supervision
The Executive Coordinator and the Business Process Advisor of the ICPD Beyond 2014 Secretariat and the JPO Focal Point atthe UNFPA Headquarters for career development and administrative issues.
Content and Methodology of Supervision
- Job-related guidance in a timely, constructive and appropriate manner is provided on a continuous basis.
- The functions of all staff and what is required of the JPO and how this relates to the overall mandate of UNFPA will be explained.
- All necessary information, rules, policies, equipment and other tools required will be provided.
- The JPO will have opportunities to use his/her skills and abilities fully and to contribute to the work of the office to the best of his/her abilities.
- Supervisors will take an overall interest in the JPO's development and provide encouragement and advice on how the JPO can realize his/her potential.

Duties and Responsibilities
The post is located in the ICPD Beyond 2014 Secretariat and reports directly to the Business Process Advisor of the ICPD Beyond 2014 secretariat. S/he supports the lead in the secretariat in organizing thematic meetings and implementing the work plan.
- Provide support to the Business Process Advisor/ ICPD Beyond 2014 Secretariat for the organization of the 2013 Global Thematic Conferences in the context of the ICPD Review as envisioned by the Background Note.
- Assist on the organization of preparatory meetings, collecting technical information and doing research in topics related with the global thematic meetings and conferences with internal and external partners.
- Liaise and work closely with colleagues from different units on UNFPA's substantial contribution to the organization of the various thematic meetings that are aimed at generating inputs to the Global Report (i.e. human rights conference).
- Act as a contact person within the ICPD Secretariat for the organization of the 2013 Conference on Human Rights and other global thematic meetings, including consultative and expert meetings.
- Assist in coordinating logistical work around the organization of the thematic meetings conferences in close cooperation with relevant focal points in the UN agencies as well as CSO and experts groups: invitation of participants, collection of presentations and input by participants, drafting of agendas and concept notes, etc.
- Collect documentation and revise documentation to be available to UNFPA units on the ICPD Review through the corporate Tool Kit created for this purpose.
- Provide support to the Business Process Advisor in managerial activities of the Operational Review Process to ensure that they are properly monitored and followed. (i.e. draft the Annual Work Plans for the ICPD Beyond 2014 Coordination Secretariat, help revising and updating the Office Management Plan for the ICPD Beyond 2014 Coordination Secretariat).
- Liaison with country offices to identify and monitor communication plans and activities relating to the ICPD Beyond 2014 Review.
- Preparation regular news updates for UN partners on global activities and achievements in relation to the ICPD review.
- Preparation of articles for Voices and contribution of ICPD updates and announcements to UNFPA internal communication vehicles.

Qualifications and Experience
- Postgraduate degree in social sciences, communication, public information or related fields with knowledge in the field of international affairs.
- At least 2 years of experience in international cooperation, communication and advocacy preferablywith familiarity with topics related with ICPD PoA.
- Prior experience in developing countries is an asset.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of other working languages of the UN) is an asset.
- Ability to write clearly, concisely and accessibly for a number of audiences.
- Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
- Age: Must not be more than 32 years on the date of application
- Information Technology skills, including word processing, database application (excel) presentation software (power point) and internet appreciation.
- An interest in adapting to varied physical environments; and a desire to work with people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds;
- Evidence of ability to think strategically, work independently and demonstrate a sense of self-assuredness.

- Oversee the production of the Annual Work Plans and Office Management Plans
- Formulate Annual Work Plans for projects and corporate unit.
- Appraise and prepare projects addressing the role of intergovernmental meetings in advancing multilateral agreements.
- Prepare project budgets for fundraising proposals.
- Appraise and prepare communication projects that support the strategic objectives of programmes and projects.
- Develop internal communication strategies using stakeholder analysis tools to identify and prioritize key stakeholders.
- Monitor progress and evaluate the success of communication strategies.
