The Junior Professional Officers’ Programme (JPO-P) was established in 1963 to provide young professionals pursuing a career in development with hands-on experience in multilateral technical cooperation. It is funded with donations from donor countries. Currently, there are 19 sponsors comprising 16 countries from Europe and 3 from Asia. The programme is administered by the JPO Service Center in Copenhagen. Denmark and initially for one year with possibility of extension for another one year, depending on satisfactory performance making a total of two years objective of the programme

Duties and responsibilities
General management:
Working closely with the Chief of Staff and the Special Assistant to the Director of BoM, facilitates coordination and information sharing between various Units of the Bureau of Management. Supports collection of inputs from within BoM on various matters requiring BoM-wide consultation. Contributes to the organization of Bureau-wide and senior managers meetings/events.30%
Conducts research and data analysis as an input into substantive discussions on institutional effectiveness and efficiency and innovation in operations management. Participates in the BoM innovation group, makes proposals, as appropriate, on new ideas/innovative solutions that could be explored by BoM in different management areas.15%
Supports preparation of briefs, statements, speeches, etc. by the Director and Deputy Directors’ of BoM, as required. Working with Regional Bureaus and BoM units, prepares and maintains country office briefs, covering their performance in key management areas.15%
Supports the development of different knowledge products in management areas, such as compilation and dissemination of good practices, useful experiences, “do and don’t” notes, support materials, etc.10%
Communications:
Supports drafting and implementation of the BoM communication strategies and specific action plans for internal and external communications.10%
Working with relevant staff from the Directorate and BoM units, supports the development and dissemination of key communications products of BoM aiming to ensure that key policy and others messages in management areas reach relevant audiences in UNDP in a timely manner and are framed and presented effectively responding to the specific needs of different audiences. 10%
Ensures regular updates of the BoM Intranet site, including preparation of relevant the content.10%
Qualifications and experience
Master’s Degree or equivalent Advanced Degree in a related field of expertise.
A minimum of two years of paid working experience in a relevant field.
Basic understanding / prior exposure to work within an international organization will be considered an asset.
Previous exposure to work in developing countries will also be considered an asset.
Age: Must not be more than 32 years on the date of application
Excellent knowledge of English.Knowledge of French, Spanish or one other UN Language would be an asset.
Information Technology skills, including word processing, database application (excel) presentation software (power point) and internet appreciation.
Evidence of ability to think strategically, work independently and demonstrate a sense of self-assuredness.

Learning Expectations:
Working in the Directorate of the Bureau of Management, the incumbent will get an exposure to various management issues and will have an opportunity to contribute to processes and discussions aimed at the development of new management solutions to respond to the needs of Country Offices and Regional Bureaus as well as business needs of UNDP at large. The incumbent will also get exposure to corporate policy making processes and innovation in management.
