The Junior Professional Officers’ Programme (JPO-P) was established in 1963 to provide young professionals pursuing a career in development with hands-on experience in multilateral technical cooperation. It is funded with donations from donor countries. Currently, there are 19 sponsors comprising 16 countries from Europe and 3 from Asia. The programme is administered by the JPO Service Center in Copenhagen. Denmark and initially for one year with possibility of extension for another one year, depending on satisfactory performance making a total of two years objective of the programme

Content and methodology of supervision
The JPO will work under the supervision of the Directorand in close collaboration with the Resource Mobilization, Communications and Advocacy, and Civil Societysections within the Strategic Partnerships, Advocacy, Civil Society, Communications, and Resource Mobilization Division at UN Women HQ in New York. Daily contact between the Supervisor and JPO will be maintained and the JPO will be expected to participate in the Division's weekly meetings. Regular sessions will be organized in order to review progress achieved against the agreed work plan formulated at the beginning of the assignment.

Duties, Responsibilities and Output Expectations
Assist the Director in ensuring the Division's annual work plan targets are met, with a special focus on private sector partnerships
50 per cent of the duties would include:
- Support the Director in the performance of her functions, including by the provision of inputs on the strategic management of the Division, liaising closely with in-house sections as well as key partners and stakeholders.
- Ensure the timely follow-up to the Division's directives, including the effective dissemination of pertinent information to senior management and other relevant staff at Headquarters and in other offices.
- Keep track of and evaluate important events, meetings and advising the Director of priorities and critical meetings requiring her presence and making necessary arrangements for her participation including the preparation of papers, policies, etc.,
- Prepare outline and/or draft papers, speeches and talking points for the Director. Prepare briefing folders and research for all background papers that are necessary for the Director's meetings. Provide editorial assistance by drafting, clearing and editing speeches, reports and correspondence.
- Assist in the follow-up to meetings, including the preparation of relevant notes, as appropriate.
- Provide support to the Senior Management Team (SMT) meetings and retreats, including preparation of agenda and minutes, ensuring the timely submission and circulation of relevant background documents and reports. Copied from: www.hotnigerianjobs.com
50 per cent of the duties would include:
- Assist in the development ofstrategic partnerships with the private sector by outreach, messaging and products to support and strengthen the investment case for UN Women and gender equality.
- Support the development of tailored resource mobilizations packages to attract the right partnerships on specific issues, campaigns and events.
- Work with the Division's communications and media teams to support the development high quality materials to keep donors well-informed of UN Women programmes, initiatives, "success stories" and results.
- Liaising with programme units, assist in the development and maintenance of proposals which match private sector donor interests and/or requirements.
- Perform other official duties and special assignments which may be requested by the Director.
Qualifications and Experience
Education (only Master's degree or equivalent):
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Communications or International Relations.
Work Experience (at least 1 to 2 years relevant work experience):
- At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in resource mobilization, communications, advocacy, public relations, and/or donor relations.
Work experience in gender equality issues, particularly in developing countries, an asset.
- Age: Must not be more than 32 years on the date of application
- Information Technology skills, including word processing, database application (excel) presentation software (power point) and internet appreciation.
- An interest in adapting to varied physical environments; and a desire to work with people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds;
- Evidence of ability to think strategically, work independently and demonstrate a sense of self-assuredness.
- Respect for the UN principles of the United Nations Charter and the participating UN organization’s mission statement
Key competencies of the assignment
