Federal Ministry of Younth Decelopment - Following the approval of His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and in line with youth empowerment programme thrust under the Transformation Agenda of Mr. President, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) in conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) invite applications from suitably qualified young Nigerians to participate in the Junior Professional Officers’ Programme (JPO-P) 

The Junior Professional Officers’ Programme (JPO-P) was established in 1963 to provide young professionals pursuing a career in development with hands-on experience in multilateral technical cooperation. It is funded with donations from donor countries. Currently, there are 19 sponsors comprising 16 countries from Europe and 3 from Asia. The programme is administered by the JPO Service Center in Copenhagen. Denmark and initially for one year with possibility of extension for another one year, depending on satisfactory performance making a total of two years objective of the programme

Content and methodology of supervision

The Human Resources Analyst will meet weekly with the Human Resources Specialist and other members of the HR team on topics of direct relevance. At the beginning of the assignment, a negotiated work plan will be developed, and will detail expected outputs and success indicators over the reporting period. Duties, Responsibilities and Output Expectations
  • The HR Analyst supports the Human Resources team in the development and successful implementation of strategic HR initiatives and policies, focusing on achieving the following results:
  • Development and implementation of new human resources policies, practices and procedures to meet the evolving needs of the Organization;
  • Monitoring adequate implementation of human resources policies, practices and procedures;
  • Participating in human resources projects and initiatives.
  • Operational support to implement staffing plans and other organizational actions as part of the organizational development and change management processes.
  • Effective support to management’s internal staffing reviews, including development and maintenance of staffing/vacancy projections.
  • Preparation of documentation, statistics, reports and logistical support of a high standard.
  • Development and review of job descriptions for UN-Women positions.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Education (only Master’s degree or equivalent): Advanced degree in human resources management, social sciences, or relevant discipline.
  • Work Experience (at least 1 to 2 years relevant work experience): A minimum of 2 year’s work experience in supporting Human Resource Management activities, research, administration or international development.
  • Age: Must not be more than 32 years on the date of application
  • Language skill: Fluency in English language and ability to speak any UNDP official language is an added advantage.
  • Information Technology skills, including word processing, database application (excel) presentation software (power point) and internet appreciation.
  • An interest in adapting to varied physical environments; and a desire to work with people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Evidence of ability to think strategically, work independently and demonstrate a sense of self-assuredness.

Upon completion of the assignment, the JPO will have / be able to…
Apart from mandatory trainings, the HR Analyst would be expected to participate in several courses including training for competency based interviewing, and human resources development, as well as attend at least one professional development activity outside of the UN system in New York, focused on strategic recruitment/human resources. A significant amount of the JPO’s development will occur through guided experiences which take place during the assignment.
